Had the privilege to be part of this wonderful band of talents on this short run of six shows under the aegis of The Ulster Operatic Company , with musical direction under the inspired and expert eye of Wilson Shields, a long-time musician colleague for getting on for forty years now, since our days together in the John Anderson Big Band in thew 1980s’…! ‘West Side Story’ is a legendary show, and this young cast did not disappoint the sold-out audiences each night…whilst that was going on I was kept on my toes reading through the challenging bass-pad…the constantly-changing meters involved in the pieces certainly require all one’s concentration, but the show’s songs - including ‘Tonight’, ‘Maria’, I Feel Pretty’ - and the challenging ‘Cool’ and ‘Gee Officer Krupke’ are all evergreens to be enjoyed over and over again…!
